Theory of an elastic anomaly in the heavy fermion system CeTe

چکیده
The elastic anomaly observed in the coherent Kondo state of Ce heavy fermion compounds is analyzed by using the Anderson lattice model simulating the energy level scheme of CeTe. The Γ7 doublets and Γ8 quartets of the 4f states are considered in the model. We solve the mean field equations to derive the temperature dependences of elastic constants, using the random phase approximation like expression for the interaction between the elastic strain and the crystalline field splitting. We compare the calculation with the (c11 − c12)/2 and c44 constants of CeTe. The presence of the downward dip and the observed overall temperature variations of the two constants are

Elastic anomaly of heavy fermion systems in a crystalline field Running head: Elastic anomaly of heavy fermion systems
An elastic anomaly, observed in the heavy Fermi liquid state of Ce alloys (for example, CeCu6 and CeTe), is analyzed by using the infinite-U Anderson lattice model. Four atomic energy levels are assumed for f-electrons. Two of them are mutually degenerate. A small crystalline splitting 2∆ is assumed between two energy levels. Fourfold degenerate conduction bands are also considered. We solve th...

متن کاملVariational Calculations for the Relativistic Interacting Fermion System at Finite Temperature: Application to Liquid 3He
In this paper, at first we have formulated the lowest order constrained variational method for the relativistic case of an interacting fermion system at finite temperature. Then we have used this formalism to calculate some thermodynamic properties of liquid in the relativistic regime. The results show that the difference between total energies of relativistic and non-relativistic cases of liqu...

We explore the effects of a heavy fermion doublet in a simplified version of the standard electroweak theory. We integrate out the doublet and compute the exact effective energy functional of spatially varying gauge and Higgs fields. We perform a variational search for a local minimum of the effective energy and do not find evidence for a soliton carrying the quantum numbers of the decoupled fe...

It is a common knowledge that the formation of electron pairs is a necessary ingredient of any theoretical work describing superconductivity. Thus, finding the mechanism of the formation of the electron pairs is of utmost importance. There are some experiments on high transition temperature superconductors which support the electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions as the pairing mechanism (ARPES),...
